Durack teachers were very excited and proud to be awarded the Department of Education's Showcase Award for Excellence in  Early and Primary Years.  The award recognises the success of our Maths Program in improving learning in Mathematics and the great work of school leaders and the teachers implementing and sustaining the program over several years.

Great bargains for kids and parents at our Book Fair at the end of October!
(This good opportunity to do a little early Christmas shopping),

Our annual sports days have been held with Gamma House  having a resounding victory in the Senior Sports and Alpha House winning the Junior Sports Day by a mere 1 point.

This term we have begun learning Auslan in Years 4-6 as an additional language, replacing German.    Auslan is the language of the Deaf community in Australia.  Students are showing great enthusiasm for learning to sign, and so are teachers, with some fifteen of our staff now attending an introduction course at the University of Southern Queensland.

The Commonwealth Game

You know, of course, that the Commonwealth Games will be held at he Gold Coast this year.  At Durack we are playing the Commonwealth Game, where classes which different countries can win Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals in many ways.  Children are also learning about the countries of the Commonwealth of Nations.

Prep and Year 1-2 students and will not know their user name and you can obtain this from The Office or Mr Ray Poultney, our Teacher-Librarian.  Year 3 students are just starting to use their own personal user names.   Their teachers will also have a list.

Parents can download free software and printable resources for Handwriting from the Learning Place.

You can print from your home PC or MAC in the same style as Queensland  school students learn to write, the same style as the teachers use on the whiteboards and worksheets.  There are also handwriting practice sheets and books you can print and use.
