People who will help you


Class Buddies

When you arrive at Durack State School your teacher will choose a student buddy who will help you get to know you way around our school and get to know other students. Year 6 student leaders will also help you.

Leadership Team
Our school Principal along with the Deputy Principals are responsible for the smooth running of the school supporting students, staff and parents.

Administration Team

Business Services Manager – Mrs Colleen Hollis

Our BSM and office staff assist all students and their families. 

Administrative Officer –
Mrs Tanya Meiring

 Our Adminstrative Officer is the person you first go to at the at the Front Desk of the school's offices.

Learning Engagement Officer
 – Mrs Mai Quach

Our LEO liaises with families on behalf of the administration team. Mai is able to speak Vietnamese which assists our families of Vietnamese background


Class Teacher and supporting Teacher-Aide

Your classroom teacher will help you with all the key learning areas. Your class is supported by a teacher-aide who will work with you in small group or one on one to help you with your English and Maths


EAL/D Program

Mrs Lee See and Mrs Carmody

Our English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) teachers and T-Aide work to assists our international students with learning English. They liaise between parents/caregivers, teachers, students and administrative staff.  Our EAL/D programmes link very closely with our classroom curriculum to ensure academic success for our EAL/D learners

We also have many teachers and teacher-aides that can speak other languages and they can help you. Languages include Vietnamese, Mandarin, Indian dialects, Swahili, Samoan, German, and Greek.


Guidance Officer

 Mr Rod Nelson

Our Guidance Officer works with teachers and school-based support personnel to assess and address the needs of students.  He can also provide counselling for you and your family.


Support Teacher Literacy and Numeracy

Mrs Kim Haynes

Our STL&N can also help you with literacy and numeracy.


School Chaplain

Ms Ruth Ward

Our School Chaplain will help you settle into your new school. She also runs activities and programs with students to build friendships and resilience.




Mr Ray Poultney

Our library staff will help you find learning resources and work with computers. You can go to the resource centre during lunch times with your class for library session. There are many novels and information books for children aged 5 to 13.  There is a small collection of books in the Vietnamese language.
