Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS)

Humanities and Social Sciences in Primary School comprises History, Geography, Civics and Citizenship, Economics and Business.   Civics and Citizenship is introduced in Year 3, and Economics and Business Year 5.

In the Australian Curriculum, the study of History progresses from the child’s immediate surroundings, the family and home to that of the local area Prep. to  Year 3. Years 4 to 6 study the Australia's history from the early arrival of the white settlers to multicultural society that it is today, including the indigenous perspectives.

Geography follows a similar pattern, starting with  developing ideas of place, space, environment, interconnection, sustainability and change at home, school and the local area and extending those understandings to a wider range of places and environments.

Civics and Citizenship, beginning in Year 3, develops understanding of government and democracy, laws and citizens, and citizenship, diversity and identity.

In Economics and Business, in Year 5 and 6  students learn to recognise that choices need to be made when meeting their needs and wants, and  that their choices as consumers of resources, of goods and services, have consequences.  They will begin to understand the way resources can be managed sustainably and how business operates to provide goods and services.

Each year we all learn about and commemorate an important day in our history, Anzac Day

Our school celebrated the Centenary of the Anzacs (1915-2015) by installing an Anzac Mural in the hall.
