As an extension to the classroom music curriculum, Durack state school offers three extracurricular ensembles – the Durack Band, Durack Strings and Music Extension (MEX)

In line with the Queensland Instrumental Music curriculum, the Instrumental Music Program seeks to provide continuous music training for students from Grade 3 to Grade 6, with the hope that students will continue their Instrumental music education into high school.

Instrumental Music Program - Band

From year three upwards, students are able to express their interest for participation in the school band. Selected students are provided with small class instruction within school hours every week; along with weekly rehearsal. The band regularly performs on school assembly and participates in and outside of school.  

Band instruments on offer includes: 

  • Woodwind: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone. 
  • Brass: Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, French horn.
  • Percussion: tuned and un-tuned.

Instrumental Music Program - Strings

From year two upwards, students are able to express their interest for participation in the school string ensemble. Selected students are provided with small class instruction within school hours weekly. The strings ensemble regularly performs in and out of school.  

String instruments on offer includes: 

  • Violin
  • Viola
  • Cello

Instrumental Music and Music Extension FEES

Resources such as textbooks or musical instruments that will be used over a longer period are hired to students to reduce costs for families. A repair or replacement cost will be charged to the parent for any items that are damaged or not returned. 

 

The annual SRS fees associated with each program are as follows:

 

MEX - Music Extension:

$80/year includes 2 x weekly rehearsals, musicianship and music theory (including AMEB theory, not exams).

 

Instrumental Music - Strings

$80/year includes instrument hire, weekly ensemble and group lesson, theory book, consumables such as rosin, rock stop (cello & double bass) spare strings.

 

Instrumental Music - Strings

$40/year includes weekly ensemble and group lesson (own instrument), theory book, access to consumables such as rosin, rock stop (cello & double bass) spare strings.

 

Instrumental Music - Brass and Woodwind

$80/year includes instrument hire, weekly ensemble and group lesson, theory book, consumables such as cork grease, reeds, slide cream, and valve oil.

 

Instrumental Music - Brass and Woodwind

$40/year includes weekly ensemble and group lesson, theory book, consumables such as cork grease, reeds, slide cream, and valve oil.

 

Instrumental Music - Percussion

$50/year includes weekly ensemble and group lesson, theory book and drum sticks.

 

Financial Hardship Parents experiencing financial hardship are encouraged to contact the Business Manager (Finance) to discuss payment options to accommodate their circumstances. ​
