Students investigate the world around them to develop an understanding of the nature of scientific concepts.
Our Science curriculum is based on the teaching and learning units developed to meet the objectives of the Australian Curriculum - Science. The science content includes the three strands: Science Understanding, Science Inquiry Skills and Science as a Human Endeavour. We emphasise active engagement in the learning process. The content and skills taught in each year level are detailed at https://www.australiancurriculum.edu.au/
Durack State School has a well-equipped Science laboratory offering comprehensive resources to support classroom learning. School excursions and incursions also extend student learning and provide aspirational experiences.
Science Club offers investigation opportunities for students and is scheduled twice a week during lunch breaks. Age appropriate experiments are set up by Ms Khelawan.
Ms Neeru Khelawan, self-confessed "science nerd", is Science Program Manager. 'Ms K' studied Math and Science at university. She also enjoyed flying on the magic carpet during the Science Factory visit to the school.
