Music
Durack State School offers several music programs - in the classroom as part of the curriculum and in ensembles as extra-curriculum.
Our program presents the opportunity for every child to understand the contribution music makes to society and establishes the skills for lifelong learning.
Our music program aligns with the Australian Curriculum and presents every child the opportunity to develop:
- Confidence to be creative, innovative, thoughtful, skilful and informed musicians
- Skills to compose, perform, improvise, respond and listen with intent and purpose
- Aesthetic knowledge and respect for music and music practices across global communities, cultures and musical traditions
- Understanding of music as an aural art form as they acquire skills to become independent music learners.
Classroom music program
Every student participates in 30 minutes of classroom music which focuses on:
- Singing
- Active listening
- Playing instruments
- Movement
- Creating & Composition

Visual art
Visual arts includes the fields of art, craft and design. Learning in and through these fields, students create visual representations that communicate, challenge and express their own and others’ ideas as artist and audience.
Media arts
Media arts involves creating representations of the world and telling stories through communications technologies such as television, film, video, newspapers, radio, video games, the internet and mobile media.
Drama
Drama is the expression and exploration of personal, cultural and social worlds through role and situation that engages, entertains and challenges.
Dance
Dance is expressive movement with purpose and form. Through dance, students represent, question and celebrate human experience, using the body as the instrument and movement as the medium for personal, social, emotional, spiritual and physical communication.
