Story Club - Focused language intervention

  • ‚ÄčTerm 2: Oral language screener for all Preps
  • Students with 'red flags' understanding and using language (in home language and/or English) prioritised for Story Club
  • These students receive 2-3 terms of small group intervention
  • One session each week with the Special Language Pathologist
  • Two follow-up sessions with trained Teacher-aide
  • Review assessment in Term 2 of Year 1: Students with ongoing significant language needs verified SLI
  • Active listening
  • Developing vocabulary around familiar class stories (people, actions, places, times, objects)
  • Answering questions about class texts using target vocabulary
  • Improved sentence structure, with a focus on increased length and complexity
  • Putting sentences together to re-tell a familiar class story
